Richard "Sonny" "Fred" Humphrey, 74, of Keokuk died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at his home.
He was born on December 15, 1941 in Keokuk, IA the son of Fredrick Jesse and Mary Elaine Mullen Humphrey. On December 30, 1966 Richard was united in marriage to Jo Ann Hayden at the Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, MO. She preceded him in death on July 9, 2004.
Sonny was an army veteran of the Vietnam War and proudly served his country.
He was a graduate of the Keokuk Senior High School
Sonny was employed at the Keokuk Steel Casting in Keokuk until his retirement in 2002.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk,
Sonny enjoyed working in his garage tinkering around. He enjoyed watching car shows, going boating and camping. In his quiet time he enjoyed reading his Bible.
Survivors include one son, Richard Shawn Humphrey of Keokuk, one daughter, Mia Jo (Lester) Cooper of Keokuk, two step-sons, Jimmie Lee (Tina) Varner of Sacramento, CA, and Jeffrey Hayden (Deb) Varner of Fayette, IA, two step daughters, Julie Lynn Russell of Keokuk and Jan Louise (Charles) Conover of Keokuk, 23 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, a sister, Louise E. Gooden of Keokuk, nieces and nephews.
Sonny was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Josephine R. Dunn, half-brother, Edward J. Mullen, one nephew, Gregory A. Summers and one granddaughter, Amy N. Cooper.
A Graveside service with military rites was held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2016 at Keokuk National Cemetery with Rev. David Turner officiating.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk is in charge of arrangements.
