Obituary

Richard Albert Schwab, 73, of Donnellson, IA, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at his home. He was born on August 6, 1936 the son of Albert and Ernestine Mahaffey Schwab. On May 19, 1968 he was united in marriage to Carol B. Holloway. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Megan Cecil of Donnellson, IA, three granddaughters, twins Katelyn and Seeley Rauch and Natalie Cecil. He was preceded in death by his parents. Richard graduated from City High School in Iowa City with the class of 1954. He then graduated from DeVry University in Chicago, IL. Richard worked at Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids as head of the Graphic Arts Department for several years. He then worked as a Correctional Officer for twenty five years with the Iowa Department of Corrections at the Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Richard attended the First Church of the Nazarene of Montrose. He was an active member of the Republican Party over the years. He served in the National Guard for nine years. He enjoyed radio controlled airplanes and model trains, fishing, swimming and woodworking. Richard was a loving husband, father, & grandfather and his granddaughters were his pride & joy. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Preston Smith officiating. Burial was in the St. Paul Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson, IA. Memorials may be made to his granddaughter's college fund or the First Church of the Nazarene in Montrose.
