Richard Harold "Olie" Olson, 86, of Alexandria, MO, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO. He was born on January 3, 1924 in Cantril, IA, the son of Pearl and Medie Olson. On September 16, 1945 Richard was united in marriage to Jennie Lavaughn Oliver in Memphis, MO. She preceded him in death on September 12, 2005. Richard was a veteran of the United States Marines, proudly serving his country during WW II and fighting in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He had been employed at Sheller Globe in Keokuk for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the American Legion Post #41 in Keokuk and the Eagles Club. Richard enjoyed fishing, tinkering in his garage, coin collecting and vegetable gardening. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting. He is survived by one son, Robert Olson and his wife Pam of Mesa, AZ, one daughter, Jane Olson Lamer and her husband Robb of Mesa, AZ, one grandson, Todd Reed and his wife Shana, two granddaughters, Christine Calvo and her husband Andres and Tracy Jones and her husband Willy, six great-grandchildren, Nico Calvo, Andres Calvo, Gabriel Reed, Abby Reed, Ty Johnson and Emma Johnson, one brother Leo Olson and his wife Milly of Kahoka, MO and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty Olson and two brothers, Stanley and Don Olson. A Time of Remembrance for family and friends was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday October 16, 2010 at the Alexandria Town Hall in Alexandria, MO. Burial will be in the Memphis Cemetery in Memphis, MO.
