Richard Hardy, 60 of Elvaston, IL died Sunday, July 30, 2017 at his home. He was born May 31, 1957 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Ralph E. and Barbara Gilker Hardy. He was united in marriage to Christine Happs in 1977 in Keokuk. They later divorced. Richard graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1976. He then furthered his education and attended Southeastern Community College in Keokuk where he received his AA in Electrical Engineering. Richard was currently employed at Silgan Containers in Ft. Madison, IA. He had previously been employed by General Electric in Burlington, IA, Midwest Carbide and Ferrol Sil both in Keokuk. He enjoyed watching western movies and riding motorcycles. He was a talented woodworker and made many beautiful things through the years. Richard is survived by two sons, Jamie Hardy (Casey Raleigh) and David Hardy, both of Elvaston, one daughter, Katherine Hardy (Justin Hutcherson) of Elvaston, three grandchildren, Alyssa Hardy, Austin Hardy and Trenton Hardy, his father, Ralph Hardy (Bonnie) of Keokuk, one sister, Kimberly Milligan of Keokuk and five brothers, John Hardy of Cedar Rapids, IA, Robert Hardy of MI, Ron Hardy of Keokuk, Tim Hardy (Kim) of Keokuk and Tyler Hardy (Brandy) of Keokuk and special friends, Josh & Marlana Gilham and their children, Chase and Gayle, all of Keokuk. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Arnold, his grandparents, and step-father, Lawrence Arnold. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Jerry Happs officiating. Burial will be in the Elvaston Cemetery in Elvaston, IL. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa Children's Burn Unit.
