Obituary

Richard Wayne "Dickie" Dunn, 55, of Elkmont, AL formerly of Keokuk, IA died Friday, March 18, 2005 at the V.A. Medical Center, Nashville, TN. He was born January 11, 1950 in Keokuk, IA the son of Floyd "Barney" Harold and Dorothy Louise Hickey Dunn. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army, entering the service on January 9, 1969. He served during the Vietnam conflict with the 173rd Airborne Division and attained the rank of Sergeant. Richard was awarded two Purple Hearts for actions and injuries received in Vietnam in 1970. He was also the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and Parachutist Badge. Richard received his Honorable discharge on October 11, 1972. He had lived in Elkmont, AL for ten years, moving there from Keokuk, IA. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and roaming in the country. He is survived by three sisters, Joanne Dill and her husband Mike of Croton, IA, Karen Daniels and her husband Harold of Keokuk, IA, and Brenda Cappell and her husband Larry of Holly, MI, one half-brother, William "Sonny" Scotten of Marshalltown, IA, one sister-in-law, Gladys Dunn of Elkmont, AL, several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David R. Dunn, one sister, Delores Scotten and one niece, Patsy Emerson Davis. Funeral services were held at 11a.m., Thursday, March 24 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Jerry Happs officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veteran's Hospital Hospitality House, which provides housing for family members of hospital patients.
