Dr. Richard "Doc" H. Georges, 89, of Keokuk, formerly of Carthage, IL died Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Memorial Hospital in Carthage, IL. He was born on March 18, 1927 in Chicago, IL the son of Herman and Gladys Leora Reiter Georges. He is survived by, two daughters, Patricia (Robert) Cloar of Simpsonville, KY, and Ann B. (Rob) Dunham of Carthage, one son, Richard K. "Skip" (Katherine "Kandy") Georges of Sturgeon Bay, WI and nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dana Georges, one brother, Robert M. Georges and one sister, Patricia Woods. Richard graduated from the Savanna Township High School with the Class of 1944. He then furthered his education and graduated from the University of Illinois with his DDS degree in 1953. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. Early in his career, Richard practiced dentistry in Stronghurst, IL. He then opened his own practice in Carthage, IL where he practiced from 1958 until his retirement in 2004. He was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk and taught Sunday school for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #41, a former board member of Lee County Board of Health and of Robert Morris College before it closed. After his retirement, Richard missed being around people so he became a greeter at the Keokuk HyVee where he always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Richard's body has been donated to the University of Iowa anatomical department. Services will be held at a later date with burial with military rites at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk.
