Raymond J. Bailey, 88, of Keokuk, IA died Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA.
He was born on October 10, 1928 in Macon County, MO, the son of Ray and Mintie B. Kittle Bailey. He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1947.
On September 12, 1948, Raymond was united in marriage to MarScine Roche in Keokuk, IA. She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Doug Bailey and Steve (Diane) Bailey all of Keokuk, three grandchildren, Adam (Andrea Sartory) Bailey, Andrew (Amanda) Bailey and Brianna (Scott Miller) West, five great-grandchildren, Lakin Bailey, Laurlai Bailey, Lydia Bailey, Hazel Bailey and Stevie Harrison, one brother-in-law, Tom Azinger of Keokuk, and several nieces and nephews including Jan (Steve) Lowry.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl March, Jim Shearer and George Shearer and three sisters, Nellie Dahl, Inez Bartles and Velma Azinger.
Raymond was a Veteran of the United Sates Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War.
He had been employed at Foote Mineral in Keokuk for forty years retiring in 1982 as maintenance supervisor.
Raymond was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk.
He enjoyed the beauty of outdoors and often went camping, deer hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed trying his luck at the Casino. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and a NASCAR-Jeff Gordon fan.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Milo Van Veldhuizen officiating. Burial with flag presentation was at the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk.
