Peggy Howard

Peggy Colleen Howard, 89, passed away October 15, 2018 in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was born April 17, 1929 in Mingo, IA the daughter of Orren Victor and Helen Edith (Pinney) Shoemaker. On July, 13, 1952, Peggy was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Howard in Hamilton, IL. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1994. She and her husband owned and operated Ken's Body Shop in Keokuk until 1985. She worked for DeLaney's Cleaners, Dr. Warren Shoemaker, and Dr. Sebastian Ambery all in Keokuk. She and her husband moved to DeWitt in 1985 where she worked for Dr. Prim Virdi of Rock Island, IL. Later moving to Minnesota for seven years, returning to Marion IA in 1997 where she worked for Pat McGrath Chevyland. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. She is survived by their two children; Judy Messina of Tucson, AZ and Karla (Justin) Gilbert of Marion, IA, with whom she made her home, a son-in-law, Robert Schultz of Nevada, four brother, Roy (Irene) Shoemaker of IL, Russell (Sue) Shoemaker of CO, Dr. Warren Shoemaker of MO, and Lowell Shoemaker of TX, two sisters, Kathleen Parkin of IA, and Alice Oertel of CA, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Jewel Howard in infancy; a son, Clifford L. Howard on January 16, 2014; a daughter, Marlene J. Schultz on January 20, 2018; a brother, Wayne, a sister, Lois and a half-brother, Al. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., on October 20, 2018, at Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Pastor Randall Vartabedian officiating. There was no visitation. The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk is assisting the family with arrangements.
