View Video Tribute Paul F. Schmid, 82, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on August 3, 1927 in Wayland, MO, the son of Paul and Oweta Weiniger Schmid. On January 10, 1953, Paul was united in marriage to Jean Phillips in Kahoka, MO. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Schmid of Keokuk, IA, two sons, David Johnson of Florida and Richard "Dick" Johnson of Wyoming, six grandchildren including Jessica Nicole Crowell and her husband Christopher of Keokuk, IA, and Ryan Schmid of Virginia, one brother, Ed Schmid and his wife Carolyn of Keokuk, IA, three sisters, Ann Mann of Keokuk, IA, Amelia Schmid of Springfield, MO, and Rita Potter and her husband Kip of Strafford, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-parents, two sons, Anthony Dean Schmid in infancy and Kevin Paul Schmid. Paul was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WW II. Paul first worked as a manager of a pet store in St.Louis, MO and later went on to work for twelve years at Sheller Globe in Keokuk as an electrician until his retirement in 1989. He was of the Lutheran faith. Paul loved all animals, especially his pet cats. In his earlier years, he enjoyed raising dogs. He was an experienced handyman and enjoyed doing repairs around the house and tinkering with his cars. He collected Coca Cola memorabilia and liked to watch westerns on television. Paul was a great family man and always enjoyed getting together with his family. Funeral serviceswere held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 24at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Ralph Andersen officiating. Burialwas in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
