Obituary

Otis S. Vigen, 64, of Hiawatha, IA went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 8, 2006. He was born on August 18, 1942 in Mayville, North Dakota, the son of Maurice and Ruth Jacobson Vigen. On January 14, 1978 Otis was united in marriage to Marianne Schmeling in Farmersburg, IA. Otis served in the United States Navy. He lived in St. Olaf, IA for eighteen years before moving to Cedar Rapids, IA in 1965. He graduated from Kirkwood Community College and the American Institute of Business in Cedar Rapids, IA. He had been employed at Aegon USA in Cedar Rapids, IA for 32 years retiring in 1999. He was a member of Northbrook Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, IA and Christ's Church of Tucson in Tucson, AZ. Otis enjoyed making home repairs and building and maintaining computers. He loved to travel, read, play shuffleboard and learn all about farming. He is survived by his wife, Marianne Vigen of Hiawatha, IA, his children, Lt. Colonel Darren Vigen of Ft. Walton, Florida, Darice Fink and her husband Kevin of Center Point, IA, and Dr. Carl Heilman and his wife Sheri of Great Bend, KS, five grandchildren, Taegan and Terra Fink, Brooke, Alissa and Scott Heilman, his mother, Ruth Vigen of Jefferson, IA, brothers and sisters, Karen Bossard and her husband John of Jefferson, IA, Gene Vigen and his wife Judy of Elkader, IA, Kasey Vigen and his wife June of Olathe, Kansas, Kathi Meyer and her husband Al of Jefferson, IA, Marcus Vigen and his wife Sarah of Keokuk, IA, and Scott Vigen of Kansas City, KS, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father. A memorial service was held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, October 11 at the Northbrook Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, IA with Pastor Dr. John Aker and Pastor Eric Schumacher officiating. Burial was in the Norway Lutheran Cemetery in St. Olaf, IA. Memorials may be made to the Northbrook Baptist Church or the Mesothelioma Foundation.
