Orvillena M. West, 92, of Keokuk, died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.
She was born April 30, 1924 the daughter of Charles Orville and Lula Eller Simpson. She was united in marriage to Edward Harold West Sr. on June 6, 1943 in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1971.
Orvillena ran a mom and pop store located at 1200 William Street in Keokuk when she was younger. She then was employed by St. Joseph Hospital in Keokuk as a CNA and also worked as an Avon representative for forty years and was a landlord for three apartment homes.
She was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Disciples in Keokuk.
Orvillena was devoted to her family and taking care of her home. She was a hard working woman and cared deeply for the people she nursed at the hospital. She was a people person and had many friends whom she loved talking with. She was an amazing cook and was known for her mouthwatering pot roast.
She is survived by two sons, Edward Harold West, Jr. (Sylvia) of Keokuk and Kevin Lee West of Keokuk, two grandsons, Edward Harold West, III of Keokuk and Benjamin James West of Keokuk, one granddaughter, Elaine Jane Hays of Keokuk, four great-grandchildren, Austin West, Tyler Hays, Marrissa Hays and Sophia Hays all of Keokuk, nieces and nephews, including Esther Ferguson, Michael Cooper, Roger Cooper, Margie Vickers, Gary Bowles and Gloria Bowles.
She was preceded in death by half- brothers and half-sisters.
A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Reverend David Turner officiating. Burial was int the Keokuk National Cemetery.
