Olive Irene Megchelsen, 93, of Montrose, IA, was called home Tuesday, November 16, 2010 while at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on April 11, 1917 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Louis and Birdie Williamson Boyd. On August 12, 1939, Olive was united in marriage to Karl Megchelsen at the Sandusky Christian Church in Sandusky, IA. Olive was the fifth generation of the Williamson family to attend this church beginning with her great-great-grandfather, Elijah Williamson, minister from 1859 – 1887. Olive graduated from the Montrose High School with the Class of 1935. She had been employed at Shaeffer Pen in Ft. Madison, IA, LeMatty's Drug Store in Montrose, the Montrose Post Office, the Montrose Memorial Library, the Cottage Gift Shop in Montrose and the Iowa Wesleyan College Bookstore in Mt. Pleasant. She was a member of the Sandusky United Methodist Church and a previous member of the Montrose Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose, IA where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was also a member of the Silver Cross Circle of the King's Daughters, Mother's Chorus, Women's Home Study Club and led a women's Bible study in her home. Olive loved nature and being outdoors. She enjoyed handwork, genealogy and local history. In her younger years she cared for her grandchildren and made delicious springerle cookies. Her most important mission in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Sue Chatfield and her husband Roger of Montrose and Kay Kite of Keokuk, six grandchildren, Joan Ealy and her husband Eric of Winter Haven, FL, Chris Kite and his wife Joy of Keokuk, Joe Kite and his wife Darcy of Keokuk, Alan Chatfield and his wife Judy of Montrose, Carrie Fekete and her husband Brad of Keokuk and Amy Benson and her husband Pete of Keokuk, sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Karl on June 20, 2006, one sister, Gladys Mitchell and one brother, Byron Boyd. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Novmeber 19, 2010 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Elaine Foley officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky Cemetery in Sandusky, IA.
