Norma Jean Black, 83, of Montrose, IA, died Thursday, September 23, 2021, at her home.
She was born on October 31, 1937, in Star City, WV, the daughter of Clarence and Freda Ghuste St. Clair. She graduated from High School in Morgantown, WV.
In 1959, Norma enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served her country as a Medical Corpsman.
On October 9, 1960, Norma was united in marriage to Donald Richard Black at Fort Fitz Simmons Army Hospital in Denver, CO. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2004.
Norma was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary.
She loved bowling and had bowled on leagues for over forty years. She enjoyed fishing on the river and was an avid supporter of the ASPCA.
Norma is survived by one son, Joe Black of Montrose, one daughter, Libby Ketterer and her husband Ed of Keokuk, one stepdaughter, Helen Porter of Fredericksburg, VA, six grandchildren, Anthony Patterson, Eva Best (Larry), Christopher Black (Andy Rodriguez), Jeania Weber (Geoff), Jonathon Ketterer (Jennifer) and Steven Ketterer, eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother Roger St. Clair of Minnesota, several cousins and her beloved cat, Petey.
Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by one son, Daniel Black, one grandson, Roy Patterson and her stepmother, Drucilla "Toots" St. Clair.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on September 29th, 2021 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Burial with military rites was held in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation was held prior to the service from 12 noon – 2 p.m. with the family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to the VFW Auxiliary, the Wounded Warrior Project or the Keokuk Animal Shelter.
