Nathaniel John Mortimer, 41, of Keokuk died January 24, 2021 in Keokuk.
Nathaniel was born on September 1, 1979, the son of Penny Sue Mortimer and Steve Smith. In 2010 he was united in marriage to Christie Simpson in Keokuk. She survives.
Nate is also survived by his son, Scott Mortimer of Lafayette, IN, a daughter, Keagan Benedict of Donnellson, a step-daughter, Britni Simpson of Des Moines, IA, two step-sons, Korben Benedict of Donnellson and Michael Simpson of Des Moines, one grandchild, Ezra Parson, one sister, Renea Glenn (Bubby) of Keokuk, his maternal grandfather, Jack Mortimer of Keokuk, a niece, Hailey Mortimer (Brittney) of Keokuk, a nephew, Jerry Glenn of Keokuk and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Smith, his mother, Penny Sue Mortimer Hale, a maternal grandmother, Sharon Mortimer, paternal grandparents, Pete and Francis Smith and mother-in-law, Carol Simpson.
Anyone who knew Nate, knew that he was always up for an adventure, especially ghost hunting. He enjoyed working on cars and was always tinkering on something. He was best known as a "Jack of All Trades."
