Mildred L. Smith, 86, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at her home. She was born on October 22, 1918, in Cambridge, MO, the daughter of Tom and Mabel Fritsch Butler. On October 21, 1938, Mildred was united in marriage to John E. Smith. He preceded her in death on June 13, 1999. Mildred had been employed with the Keokuk Community School District and had worked as a cook at the Keokuk Senior High School for over 20 years. A member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, Mildred was very active in the Christian Women's Fellowship. She loved to be in her garden and tend to her flowers. She was a loving mother and grandmother and treasured the times she spent with her family. She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits. She is survived by one daughter Bonnie Hall and her husband, Robert, of Higbee, MO, one son Dale Smith and his wife, Donnie, of Keokuk, IA, one sister Evelyn Hartwig and her husband, David, of Booneville, MO, seven grandchildren, Greg Hall, Brenda Smith, Thomas Hall, Michael Hall, Melissa Snyder, Jay Whitaker and Bryan Whitaker, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Boyd Butler. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 24 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA, with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. A memorial was established for the First Christian Church of Keokuk, IA.
