Mildred Jean Rubey, 94 of Montrose, IA died Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Ft. Madison Community Hospital in Ft. Madison, IA. She was born on December 5, 1918 in Donnellson, IA the daughter of James and Florence Bassett Dresser. On May 31, 1952 she was united in marriage to Ray H. Rubey, Jr. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1964. Mildred graduated from Montrose High School. Mildred had been employed at Sheaffer Pen in Ft. Madison, IA and then worked for the Central Lee School District as a cook for twenty-three years. She was a member of the Montrose United Methodist Church and Montrose Library Board both of Montrose, IA, the St. Barnabas Choir, King's Daughters and Eastern Star Martha Chapter all in Montrose, IA. Mildred enjoyed working crossword puzzles and reading books. Mildred adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She is survived by one son, Kent J. Rubey and his wife Patricia of Montrose, IA, one daughter, Charlotte A. Loter and her husband Bob of Polk City, IA, two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emma Rubey, one brother, Lloyd Dresser of Ames, IA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and one brother. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September, 18th, 2013 at the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA with Pastor Dave Barrett officiating. Memorials may be made to the Montrose Fire Department or the Montrose Library.
