Mildred Maxine McVeigh, 94 of Montrose, IA was peacefully called home to Glory Land on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Montrose Health Center in Montrose, IA.
She was born February 23, 1923 in Montrose, IA the daughter of Frank and Emma Jaques Davis. On August 31, 1941 she was united in marriage to James McVeigh. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2010.
Mildred graduated from Montrose High School in Montrose, IA with the Class of 1940.
Mildred had been employed at Sheaffer Pen in Ft. Madison, IA in her younger years and then was a homemaker the rest of her life and raised five children.
She was an active member of the Montrose United Methodist Church where she attended regularly with her family. Mildred also taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She was a member of Kings Daughter, Christian Home Study Club and served as a board member on the Montrose Library Board.
Mildred was a skilled seamstress and created many beautiful afghans for her family and also made quilts for homeless boys. She loved to bowl and square dance and belonged to the "Merry Mixers" dance club. She volunteered for many years at the Montrose Library. Mildred enjoyed traveling and wintering in Mission, TX for many years.
She is survived by three daughters, Ardath (Karl) Tweedy, of Keokuk, Liz (Mike) Barker of Keokuk and Lois (Larry) Easton of Kansas City, KS, one son, David McVeigh of Montrose, IA, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, Barb McVeigh of Kahoka, MO, one sister, Marcia Kempker of Tempe, AZ and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Junkins of Prescott, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband James McVeigh, one son, Greg McVeigh, three brothers, Theodore Davis, Earl Davis and Franklin "Buddy" Davis and four sisters, Aline Griswold, Helen Azinger, Flora Davis and June Elston.
A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Vigen Memorial Home with Pastor Dave Barrett officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA.
