Mildred Burgess, 83, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Mildred was born September 4, 1927 the daughter of Winslow and Mabel Clark Thompson. She first married Elmer Burgess. She then married Jesse McGee. Mildred later married Howard Burgess in Lima, IL. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1981.
Mildred had been employed at Swift Company in Keokuk for several years.
She enjoyed the outdoors, camping and going to the river to feed the ducks. She also enjoyed trying her luck at the casino. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by six sons, Danny Burgess and his wife Linda of Keokuk, IA, Rick Burgess and his wife Sue of Keokuk, IA, John Burgess and his wife Bobette of Keokuk, IA, Robert McGee and his wife Wanda of Rock Springs, WY, Jesse McGee of Keokuk, IA and Kevin McGee of Keokuk, IA, three daughters, Sally Bennett of Keokuk, IA, Thelma Sherrill of Keokuk, IA and Kimberly Korschgen and her husband Phil of Keokuk, IA, two step-sons, David Burgess of Keokuk, IA and Robert Burgess of Montrose, IA, one step-daughter, Betty Burgess of Colorado, a granddaughter, Little Ellie McGee of Keokuk, IA, whom she raised, many other grandchildren and great- grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and special friends and caregivers, Peggy McGee and Sandy Glick and Amber "Amanda" Bennett.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Howard "Spike" Burgess and Richard in infancy, one daughter, Ellen McGee, one step-son, Allan Burgess, five great-grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Robin Korschgen officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
