Obituary

Michael David Taylor, 65 of Keokuk died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, MO. He was born November 7, 1948 in Nixa, MO the son of Grace Sifferman. On October 1, 1976 he was united in marriage to Sherry Gierke in Millbury, OH. She survives. Other survivors include two brothers, Jack Taylor and his wife Kathy of Ozark, MO and James Taylor and his wife Charlene of Dennison, TX, two nephews, James Taylor of FL and Jeff Taylor of TX , one niece, Sissy Korich of Rolla, MO, mother-in-law, Dolores Gierke of Millbury, OH, two sisters-in-law, Leanna Kander and her husband Mike of Millbury, OH and Coreen Reining and her husband Ken of Holland, OH, one brother-in-law, Dave Gierke and his wife Jill of Oregon, OH, many nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, David Gierke. Michael graduated from Central High School in Springfield, MO with the Class of 1966. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country. Michael had been in the foundry business for forty years, retiring from Matrix Metals/Keokuk Steel Castings in 2009. He was a member of the Southside Boat Club and Keokuk Yacht Club in Keokuk. He attended Sandusky United Methodist Church in Sandusky, IA and All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk. Michael was passionate about his 1936 ugly Ford hot rod that he had restored. He enjoyed all sports, especially basketball and NASCAR. Michael loved his house on the Mississippi River where he puttered around working on projects. But Mikes biggest love was his wife, Sherry, his pretty girl. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 19th, 2014at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky Cemetery in Sandusky, IA. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
