Obituary

Michael Patrick McAuliffe, 76, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA. He was born on June 1, 1940 in Owensboro, KY, the son of Aland and Violet Miller McAuliffe. He graduated from the Beatrice, Nebraska High School with the Class of 1959. He continued his education at St Joseph Creighton Memorial School of Nursing and Anesthesia in Omaha, NE and received his CRNA degree. On August 24, 1964, Michael was united in marriage to Theresa Rasey in Omaha Nebraska. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Maureen (Tim) Stoneking of Warsaw, IL, Katie (Dave) Seuser of Basehor, KS, one son, Sean (Lori) McAuliffe of Stafford, VA, six grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon) Harrison, Hayley (Dane) Stoneking, Kristie (Nick) McAuliffe, Ryan McAuliffe, Garrett and Riley Seuser, two half-sisters, several nieces and nephews and a close family friend, Ed Bazow of Keokuk. He was preceded in death by his father, Aland McAuliffe, his mother, Violet Thomas, two brothers, Ed and Elmo McAuliffe and one nephew, Danny McAuliffe. Michael was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He had been employed as an anesthetist at the Keokuk Area Hospital for over 30 years. He retired on September 30, 2003. Michael was a member of the Church of All Saints in Keokuk. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, Lee County Historical Society, Sister Cities, Keokuk Yacht Club and Southside Boat Club. He loved to travel and never missed an opportunity to take off on a new adventure. He enjoyed trips to thirty-nine U.S. states and nineteen different countries. Michael was an avid reader and a life-long learner. He enjoyed reading history books and other non-fiction. He was an enthusiastic fan of Jeopardy and was not to be interrupted while the show was on. Above all, was Michael's love for his family. He was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Church of All Saints in Keokuk. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VA Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City or the Donor's choice.
