Maxine Anita Peake Hanson, 94 of Hamilton, IL died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Montebello Manor in Hamilton.
She was born June 13, 1923 in Nauvoo, IL the daughter of George and Nellie Swigelson Peake. On June 27, 1942 she was united in marriage to Warren Hanson. He preceded her in death.
Maxine graduated from Hamilton High School with the Class of 1942.
She attended Golden's Point Church in Hamilton for many years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and was instrumental in establishing their first Vacation Bible School program. In more recent years, she attended First Christian Church in Hamilton and New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk.
After her husband's passing, Maxine worked for several years at Ben Franklin Crafts Store in Carthage, IL. Maxine loved spending time on the family farm, and especially liked to help during planting and harvest seasons. She loved being outdoors, enjoying the birds and flowers. Maxine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her grandchildren, and was an enthusiastic fan of all of their school and sport activities. Maxine embraced and offered her gift of hospitality and extended family for many years.
Maxine is survived by two sons, Dan (Gwen) Hanson and Mark (Carolyn) Hanson, all of Hamilton, eight grandchildren, Gayle (Mike) Richardson, Jody (Mark) Rader, Holly (Matt) Rader, Ryan Smith, David (Megan) Hanson, Nathan (Dana) Hanson, Greg (Amanda) Hanson and Amanda (David) Crumrine, thirteen great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Dorothy Peake and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, her parents, one daughter, Donna Rae Smith, one granddaughter, Heather Leann Hanson and three siblings, Mary O. Tarry, Bud Peake and Dale Peake.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Mark Hanson officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in rural Hamilton.
