Matthew Banes, 35, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, February 28 at his home. He was born on September 29, 1971 in Memphis, MO, the son of William and Barbara Inman Banes. On October 3, 1998 Matthew was united in marriage to Leslie Teeters in Montrose, IA. She survives. Other survivors include five sons, Quinton, Marcus, Matthew and Ryan Banes and Caleb Pattison, all of Keokuk, IA, his mother, Barbara of Kahoka, MO, two sisters, Barbara Murphy of Kahoka, MO and Evelyn Moore and her husband Matt of Kahoka, MO, two brothers, Merle Hamner and his wife Candy of Williamstown, MO, Michael Banes and friend Hope of Kahoka, MO, two aunts, Virginia Murphy of Keokuk, IA and Laurie Inman of Fresno, CA, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William, his paternal grandparents, Van and Evelyn Banes, his maternal grandparents, John and Virginia Inman, one cousin, Laurie Ann Oilar and one nephew, Toby Ray Fogelsong. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and horseback riding with his family. He liked muscle cars and had helped his dad restore a 1950 Ford two-door sedan. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 3 at the Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton, MO with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. A memorial has been established for his children's education.
