Obituary

Mary E. Seabold, 85, of Keokuk, died Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on March 6, 1929 in Keokuk the daughter of Edwin Carl and Flora Belle Schaaf Loeffler. She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1948. On October 5, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Kenneth Taylor Seabold at the First Christian Church in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2003. She had been employed at Woolworths, Keaslings and Pamida all in Keokuk and also at Sheaffer Pen in Ft. Madison, IA. Mary loved working in her flower garden and every spring and summer her yard and front porch was adorned with many beautiful flowers. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading romance novels and also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Watching television was one of her favorite pastimes and she had watched all the episodes of Bonanza, Walker Texas Ranger and Little House on the Prairie. She especially enjoyed watching game shows and playing along with the contestants. Mary's heart was in her home and she loved caring for her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she treasured the time she spent with them playing Uno, Skipbo and Bingo and spoiling them with her homemade chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy J. Thorn of Ft. Madison, Mary Sue Seabold and Janny Seabold Haskins both of Keokuk, one daughter-in-law, Debra M. Seabold of Keokuk, nine grandchildren, Colby Seabold, and his wife Holly, Clayton Seabold and his wife Toni, Jeramey Seabold and his wife Jenna, Nicki Thorn and her wife Tracy Barbatti, Adam Thorn and his wife Tanya, Hilary Carel, Emily Seabold, Sara Wadden and her significant other Robin Wood and Ben Haskins and his wife Elisa, seventeen great-grandchildren, Matthew, Payton, Zacchary, Austin, Jaelyn, Ada, Georgia, Myleigh, Logan, Malea, Ashlynn, Rylee, Arianna, Dylan, Hunter, McKenzy and Kevin. She was also preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Michael Seabold, one son-in-law, Steve Thorn, one great-grandson, Kole Wood, three brothers, Robert "Dutch" Loeffler, Edwin "Ick " Loeffler, Jr., and Roger "Bud" Loeffler and two sisters, Vivian Richardson and Nina Predmore. A Memorial Service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Rick Schmidt officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project.
