Mary K. Phillips, 90, of Keokuk, IA died Monday, June 3, 2013 at her home. She was born September 30, 1922 in Muscatine, IA the daughter of John W. and Mandie Heimer Hoffman. She married William S. Phillips and they later divorced. Mary had worked at Drydens in Keokuk for eight years and was the owner and operator of Phillips Dog Kennels in rural Keokuk for thirty years. Due to the fact that she was unable to bear children, Mary adopted four children who were her pride and joy. She is survived by two daughters, Kim Nelson and her husband Joe of TN, Angela Phillips of Keokuk, one son, Shon J. Phillips of Keokuk, three grandchildren, Missy Nelson, Marissa Phillips and Matthew Bybee, two great-grandchildren, Zack Nelson and Alex Nelson, nieces, including Bernice Johnson of Keokuk, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by one son, William L. Phillips, five sisters and two brothers. Mary loved all dogs and enjoyed listening to country music. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 6th, 2013 at the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. There was no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
