Mary M. Murphy

Mary M. Murphy, 92, of Lewistown, MO, formerly of Williamstown, MO died June 16, 2006 at the Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, MO. She was born August 8, 1913 in Lewis County, MO, one of nine children to Earl and Estel Brookhart Nichols. On February 23, 1935 she married Norval Murphy in Monticello, MO. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2001. Mary attended school at Williamstown, Missouri. She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church in Williamstown, MO and Homemakers Sunday School Class. She taught little children at Liberty Church for many years. She loved to play cards, visit , joke and be with family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and hostess. Many happy times were spent around her table at the farm near Liberty Church. Survivors include one son, William "Bill" Murphy and his wife Patsy of Williamstown, MO, seven grandchildren, David Murphy and his wife Gunilla, Carolyn Romine and her husband John, Patty Polak and her husband Rich, Janet Calandro and her husband Dan, Gary Thomson, Dale Murphy, and Lisa Allen and her husband Rodney, sixteen great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, one sister Charlotte "Shortie" Dean and a brother Junior Nichols of Quincy, IL. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Murphy and a daughter, Mary Fern Thomson, four sisters, Gladys Craig, Lena Nichols, Bertha Nichols and Louise Ellison and two brothers, Leland Nichols and Calvin Nichols. Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2006 at the Providence Baptist Church with Reverend Ernest Deatrick and Reverend Jason Hamilton officiating. Burial was in the Fairmont Cemetery. Visitation was held after 1 p.m. Sunday with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO. Memorials were made to the Fairmont Cemetery or to the Providence Nursery School.
