Mary Ellen Miller, 92, of Keokuk died August 22, 2017, at her home.
She was born Dec 29, 1924 in Keokuk, to Francis Lester and Mabel Esther Farrell.
She is survived by a son, Robert and two daughters, Mrs. Evan (Nancy) Brown and Patty Miller; three grandchildren, Emily, Grace and Ben; two brothers, Charles Farrell of Mississippi and Leo (Shar) Farrell of San Diego, CA; three sisters, Mrs. David (Rose) Pugh of Pompano FL, Mrs. Michael (Dorothy) Piano of Chevy Chase, MD, and Mrs. Bill (Colleen) Richards of Keokuk IA and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Francis and Herman; and a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Evelyn) Cunningham.
She was raised in Fort Madison with family ties to Montrose. She attended catholic schools all her life and in 1942 joined the School Sister of Notre Dame. Upon leaving the convent in 1948, she moved to Washington DC with the help of her older sister. She met her husband, Robert Miller and was married in Washington DC. He was in the Air Force and they traveled and lived in many states. She taught music and school all her life. She was an avid reader and letter writer and always interested in learning. She loved cooking, washing dishes, football, giraffes, cardinals, crossword puzzles and sharing her life's stories.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at All Saints Parish in Keokuk, with Father Lathrop officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 10-11a.m., Wednesday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to All Saints Parish or School Sisters of Notre Dame, St. Louis.
