Born on June 24, 1904 in rural Montrose, Mary was the daughter of Albert and Margaret E. Warehiem Cale. On May 11, 1930, Mary was united in marriage to Edwin McLearn in Ottumwa, IA. He preceded her in death in 1967. Mary had been a lifelong resident of Montrose living in her own home for 75 years. She and her husband ran the Locker Plant in Montrose. She liked all kinds of sports and she liked doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed following the grandchildren and the great grandchildren's activities. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary J. McLearn died Sunday July 10, 2005 at the Montrose Health Center in Montrose, IA at the age of 101. Mary is survived by one son, Larry McLearn and his wife Deanna of Ft. Madison, IA, daughter in law, Joyce McLearn of Mediapolis, IA, four grandchildren, Nadine Weirather and her husband Lane of Montrose, IA, Laura Krehbiel and her husband Willis of Donnellson, IA, Brenda McLearn-Montz and her husband Alan of Freeport, IL and Lynne Haeffner and her husband Tim of Danville, IA, ten great grandchildren, Sara and Megan Weirather, Allison, Morgan and Brian Krehbiel, Amanda and Jesse McLearn-Montz, Danielle, Kaleb and Style Haeffner, a brother, Kenneth Cale and his wife Arlene of Dallas City, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin in 1967, one son, Vernon "Bud" McLearn, three brothers, Robert Cale, David Cale, and Albert Cale, Jr. and three sisters Alberta "Bertie" Weirather, Esther Henke and Rosie Howren. Funeral services were held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday July 13, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Mike Shea officiating. A memorial was established for the Montrose Volunteer Fire Department.
