Mary Alma Kay, 75, of Keokuk, IA, died Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Montrose Health Care Center in Montrose, IA.
She was born on September 24, 1930, in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Horace and Marjorie Young Powers. On November 8, 1953, Mary was united in marriage to Elmer Kay in Kahoka, MO. He survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Ellen Kay of Gorin, MO, one step-daughter, Joanna Bertram and her husband Darwin of rural Montrose, IA, and one step-son, John Lee Kay and his wife Sheila of Keokuk, IA, one step-son-in-law, Kenneth Cline of Montrose, IA, one sister, June Carline Witte and her husband Frank of Aurora, CO, eleven Step-grandchildren, Allen Cline, Heather McDowell and her husband Eddie, John Joseph Kay and his wife Denise, Jeff Kay, April Smith and her husband Chris, Mary Tuttle and her husband Doug, Patty Parrish and her husband John, J.R. Barnes and his wife Rose Ann, Kim Noble and her husband Larry, Evonne Plate and her husband Chris, Michael Barnes and his wife Karen, twenty-eight step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one step-daughter, Rosamary Cline, one step-grandson, Daniel Cline and one step-great-grandchild, Megan Fuller.
Mary Alma graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1948.
She had been employed at the Grand and Iowa Theatres in Keokuk, IA, and also had worked for Montgomery Wards and the Lee County Credit Bureau, also in Keokuk, IA.
She was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, IA.
Mary Alma was one of the founders of the Lee County Genealogical Society and was a very active member. She had published two Genealogical quarterlies, the "Ill-IA-Mo Searcher" and "Echoes of the Past". She spent many hours researching and copying cemetery and death records. She also enjoyed music, especially playing the piano and singing.
Funeral serviceswere held at 10:30 a.m. Friday April 21 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, IA.
Memorials may be made to the Montrose Care Center or the New Testament Christian Church.
