Obituary

Martha C. Carter Puder, 90, of Keokuk, IA died on Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Montrose Health Center in Montrose, IA. She was born on October 6, 1926 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of John L. and Thelma Miller Nye. On January 25, 1947 Martha was united in marriage to Glenn L. Carter in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1981. She married John Puder on October 25, 1988 in Keokuk and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2001. Martha had worked at Swifts and St. Joseph Hospital in Keokuk, Montrose Health Center and also at the Park Ridge Workshop in Montrose. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed western and romance novels. She enjoyed traveling many places throughout the United States. She was an enthusiastic Iowa Hawkeye fan. Martha was an amazing cook and was especially pleased when her family praised the wonderful meals she prepared for them. One of Martha's greatest joys was attending sporting events that her children and grandchildren were involved in. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Iverson of Keokuk, Nancy (Ron) Rockhold of Keokuk, one son, Glenn L. (Lynn) Carter II of Montrose, eight grandchildren, Kelly (Heide) Gagnier Caposieno of Darien, IL, James Iverson of Keokuk, Shad (Arlean) Rockhold of Warsaw, IL, Shannon (Rob) Sanders of Pella, IA, Shelby (Sarah) Rockhold of Rogers, AR, Adam (Melissa) Carter of Keokuk, Bobbi (Josh) Zinnert of Ft. Madison, Steven Carter of Keokuk, and a foreign exchange grandson, Arslan Karagulov (Jazul Beyshenalieva) and their son Mark of Kyrgyzstan, seventeen great-grandchildren, Jimmy and Alexis Gagnier, James Neff, Corrine Carter, Carter Zinnert, Ashlynn, Christian and Gabby Sanders, Carter, Kylee and Carson Rockhold, Tatyn, Logan and Leighton Rockhold, Heather (Shane) Sisk, Cory and Kelsey Weigand, two great-great-grandchildren, Camden and Jaxon Sisk, one brother, Bob Nye of Argyle, IA, two sisters, Oneneta DePron of Moline, IL and Judy Wihlfehrt of Alaska and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands she was also preceded in death by her parents, step father, Julian "Speck" Wilhlfehrt, one daughter, Deborah in childbirth, one son Steve Carter, one granddaughter Keanna Marie, one brother John Nye, twin sister Myrtle Schmitz, and several sisters and brothers in-law, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 with Pastor Rob Sanders officiating. Memorials may be made to the Central Lee Sports Boosters or to her granddaughter, Shannon Sanders to help with her cancer treatment expenses.
