Marlas S. West Shoemaker, 43, of rural Argyle, IA died Thursday, September 17, 2009 at her home. She was born on May 2, 1966 in Davenport, IA the daughter of James and Sue Davolt West. Marlas graduated from Central Lee High School with the Class of 1984. She had worked at Glacier National Park in Montana and PRC in Keokuk, IA. Marlas enjoyed reading and expressing her artistic endeavors of painting, drawing and remodeling. She also loved to be in the mountains. She was a loving mother and cherished the time she spent with her family. She is survived by three sons, Ryan Sturm of Hamilton, IL, Tyler Sturm and his girlfriend, Brandy Burgess of Argyle, IA, and Reilly Shoemaker of Argyle, IA, one daughter Katy Sturm of Argyle, IA, her father, Jim West and his wife Diane of Argyle, IA, two sisters, Lisa Stonehouse and her husband Kevin of Clay Center, KS, and Jamie Hall and her husband Jason of Keokuk, IA, three nieces and one nephew. Marlas was preceded in death by her mother and grandparents. Private family graveside services were held at the Oakland Sand Cemetery in Vincennes, IA with Pastor Clegguart Mitchell officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.
