Margaret N. Cooper, 86, of Keokuk, IA, died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. Born on December 26, 1920, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of David and Jessie Mellor Boone. On September 18, 1943, in Collingswood, NJ, Margaret was united in marriage to Robert M. Cooper, who survives her. Other survivors include three daughters, Nancy Brimer and her husband James of Rockland, ME, Peggy Forrest of Lakeland, TN, and Susan Varner and her husband Nathan of Slater, IA, two sons, David Cooper, M.D. and his wife Heather of Visalia, CA and Jonathan Cooper and his wife Amy of Batavia, IL, ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, William Boone, a son-in-law Robert Forrest and a great-grandson Tyler Williams. Margaret graduated from Collingswood High School in 1938 and from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL in 1941. Later she completed 6 months of a missionary nursing course at the Booth Memorial Hospital in New York, NY. In 1937 after hearing a sermon by Dr. Robert Ketchum at a tent meeting in Haddon Heights, NJ, Margaret gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. The next year at the same tent meetings she dedicated her life to the Lord, promising to serve him wherever he wanted her to go. For the next 37 years until her retirement in 1982, Margaret and her husband Robert served as missionaries for The Evangelical Alliance Mission in Maharastra State, India. In the U.S.A., she was a member of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, MI, where she received much of the support for her career in missions. Since her retirement her home churches have been Bethel Bible Church in Donnellson, IA, and the First Baptist Church in Wayland, MO, also long-term supporters of the Coopers' ministry. A talented seamstress and knitter, Margaret loved to make clothing for her friends and loved ones. She especially enjoyed creating sweaters and booties for her grandchildren and other little ones. Some of her special joys were reading, listening to sacred music and being surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held at 9 a.m., Saturday at the Bethel Bible Church in rural Donnellson, IA with Pastor Clegguart Mitchell and Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial was in the Frazee Cemetery in rural Alexandria, MO. Memorials may be made to The Evangelical Alliance Mission (T.E.A.M.) for the training of Christian evangelists.
