Marcia Caldwell, 86, of Keokuk, died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on May 23, 1927 in Prairie City, IA, the daughter of Andrew and Marjorie Mooma Schuttinga. She married Walter Caldwell in June of 1948. They made their home on the family farm at Prairie City where Walter helped build and manage an elevator. She and her husband built a river terminal on the Mississippi River at Keokuk. Walter preceded her in death on January 1, 2013. Marcia graduated from University of Northern Iowa, Drake University and Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville, MO. She obtained a double Masters Degree in Education and Administration. She taught in Jefferson, IA, Colfax, IA, Prairie City, IA and Keokuk. She is survived by her son Andrew Caldwell of Keokuk, one sister, Neola (Dr. J.R.) of Des Moines, one sister-in-law, Mary Nell Caldwell of Indianola and nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, many of whom shared a mutual fondness with their aunt and great aunt. She was also preceded in death by one son, Dwight and a brother-in-law, Max Caldwell. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Keokuk Community School Foundation. The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA is assisting the family with arrangements.
