Obituary

Mabel K. Boone, 100, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at her home. She was born on August 28, 1912 in rural Keokuk, the daughter of Christian and Clara Miller Wirtz. On June 21, 1942, Mabel was united in marriage to John T. Boone . For over 69 years they shared a love which saw them through the joys and sorrows of life. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2012. Mabel graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1930. She had worked for thirty-five years as a secretary for several area businesses, S.F. Baker, General Mills and Sheller Globe all in Keokuk. She retired in 1977. She was a lifetime member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA. Mabel was a caring, loving woman and was devoted to her husband and children and the life they shared. She loved to sew. She is survived by one son, John A. Boone and his wife Mary of Rocky Mount, MO, two daughters, Ruth K. Clanton and her husband Garrett of Daphne, AL and Mary H. Reeves and her husband Charles of Keokuk, seven grandchildren, Todd (Leanna) Boone, Jacob Boone, Charles Reeves III and Kimberlee, Dr. Garrett (Kenya) Clanton, Carmon Reeves (Isaac) Iverson, Tina Clanton (Mark) Engelmeyer and Michelle Boone (Jason) Smith, eighteen great-grandchildren and one sister, Verna Smith of Keokuk. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Wirtz, and two sisters, Helen Moore and Marion Linnenburger. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Matt Hunt officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ or Lee County Hospice.
