View Video Tribute Mabel Arminta Anderson, 96, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, February 13, 2009 at her home. She was born on June 18, 1912 in Farmington, IA, the daughter of Samuel and Helen Pollard Anthony. On August 23, 1939, Mabel was united in marriage to Jesse Anderson in Jackson, MN. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1978. Mabel was a schoolteacher and taught in several one room schools, including Oak Ridge and Summitville, IA where she was the last teacher before it closed. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois University and taught fifth grade at Garfield School in Keokuk for twenty one years. She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk. Mabel enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by one daughter, Renee Zinnert and her husband Jeff of Nauvoo, IL, two grandsons, Jess Zinnert and his wife Nichole of Keokuk, and Josh Zinnert of Nauvoo, IL one great-granddaughter, Ayla Zinnert, five nieces, Vera Mae Nuendorf, Mary Lou Cassidy, Helen Hotchkins, Judy Hamilton and Linda Rutherford and two nephews, Jerry Saar and John Hufford. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 17, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Jeanne Tyler officiating. Burial was in the Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington, IA. Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice or Arms of Angels.
