Born on January 13, 1947 in Chicago, IL, Lynda Marie was the daughter of Raymond and Marjorie Thorness Eller. On December 21, 1974, Lynda was united in marriage to Jack Betts at Wildcat Springs in Hamilton, IL. Lynda graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1965. She had been employed at Southeastern Iowa Community Action in Keokuk, IA as a Family Development Specialist. She had also hosted the Morning Magazine show on KOKX radio station. She was a member of the Faith Family Church in Keokuk, Your Friend in Christ Ministry, Love the Children Foundation of the Philippines and Asiaide. Lynda and her son, Dan, founded Asiaide, a humanitarian organization which helps to meet the physical, medical and spiritual needs of young people in Asia. She served as Vice President of the organization and took an active part in the work. She had made a couple of trips to the Philippines where she worked side by side with her son and sang at crusades. She also established the Lynda Library in Davao, Philippines. Lynda's strength was her faith in Christ and she was always ready to tell people about her Lord. She loved music, especially singing, and had performed as a gospel singer in many Tri-State area churches. She also hosted a program on the Christian television station, Christvision, and often appeared as a guest soloist. She had recorded one C.D. of her own and was a guest artist on the Route 136 Christmas C.D. Lynda also used her musical talent for community events and will be remembered by many for her Christmas caroling at Keokuk Main Street's Putting on the Glitz. She had also performed in several Great River Players musicals. Lynda was a people person and always had a smile and hug for everyone. Lynda Marie Betts died Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at her home in Keokuk at the age of 58. She is survived by her husband, Jack, of Keokuk, IA, four daughters, Lisa Lucido and her husband Denny of Hamilton, IL, Tiffany Jones of Macomb, IL, Lisa Atterberry and her husband Greg of Billings, MO, Jacki Betts of Lake Ozark, MO, one son, Dan Betts of Iloilo City, Phillippines, six grandchildren, Celina and Donovan Lucido, Karly Jones, McKayla and Austin Atterberry, and Zachary Palmquist, three sisters, Judy Stice of Riverside, CA, Resa Eller-Lovan and her husband Seng of Keokuk, IA, and Raeann Salter and her husband Sidney of Keokuk, IA, a brother-in-law, Louis "Bud" Betts and his wife Donna of Keokuk, IA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Janice McGinnis and one brother in infancy. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Faith Family Church in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Jay Zetterlund, Pastor Sylvia Tillman and Pastor Ron Leonard officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Asiaide.
