Lydia Virginia Cole Toby, 31, of Keokuk, IA, formerly of Kahoka, MO died Friday, October 11, 2013 at her home. She was born on March 30, 1982 in Riverside, CA, the daughter of Robert and Shirley Walker Cole. She married Fredrick Toby on November 14, 2007 in Kahoka, MO. Other survivors include her mother, Shirley Bloyd of Keokuk, IA, her father, Robert Cole of Montrose, one sister, Rosa Washington of Ft. Madison, one niece, Mikah Sky Washington, one brother, Troy Smith of Kirksville, her god-daughter, Ivy Smith, her grandmother, Lula Belle Laffoon of Kahoka, MO, two step-sisters, Tonya Swanson of Abbington, IL and Stephanie Puls of Keokuk, several step-nieces and nephews and her in-laws, James and Ophelia Toby of Lyons, GA. Lydia attended Keokuk Christian Academy during her elementary years. She then continued her education in Kahoka and graduated from Clark County R1 with the Class of 2000. She had been employed as a Med Tec and CNA at the Ft. Madison Care Center. Lydia was member of the Cornerstone Church in Keokuk. At a young age Lydia was blessed with a special gift of music which she expressed through singing. As she was growing up, she sang with her sister Rosa at area churches. She continued singing throughout her life praising God with her beautiful voice. Lydia loved being outdoors camping and fishing. She also enjoyed swimming and swam on the YMCA swim team when she was younger. She was very athletic and competitive and enjoyed playing softball and football. Lydia was a very giving person and was always ready to help someone at a moment's notice. Lydia brightened many lives with her beautiful smile and her gift of friendship. There was nothing more treasured in her life than her family and she adored her niece Mikah. A Celebration of her Life was held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Cornerstone Church in Keokuk with Pastor Jed Linebaugh officiating. Memorials may be made to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.
