Lorreine Ruth Duerkop, 94, of Keokuk died Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk. She was born on March 4, 1919 in Keokuk, the daughter of Elmer and Lottie Strahn Dickson. On December 20, 1942 she was united in marriage to John H. Duerkop. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2006. Lorreine graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1936. In her younger years, Lorreine had been employed by the law offices of J.O. Boyd and Charles P. Beard. She later worked as the Deputy Clerk of District Court for twenty years. Lorreine was a member of the Lee County Genealogical Society, a Charter Member of Iowa State Genealogical Society and the Ohio Genealogical Society. She was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, TOPS, and Daughters of American Revolution with ten ancestors of the Revolutionary War. Lorreine enjoyed researching genealogy, working crossword puzzles, making up word search puzzles, making cat toys and having breakfast out. Lorreine was known for her Christmas poems that she made for all of her family and friends to enjoy. Lorreine is survived by one daughter, Judith A. Sharp of Keokuk, one son-in-law, Thomas Dreasler of Keokuk, three grandchildren, Scott A. Ward and his wife Sherry, Eric T. Ward, Robyn Cummings and her husband Toby all of Center Point, IA, two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Ward and Dawson Jahlas both of Center Point, IA, one great-great-grandson, Isaiah Ward of Center Point, IA, one brother-in-law, Wilbur Kohlmorgan of Keokuk and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Mary V. Dreasler, one sister, Mary Edna Kohlmorgan and one great-granddaughter. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 5th, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Reverend Matt Hunt officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Keokuk Humane Society.
