Loretta Jean Hoffman, 60, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on December 26, 1953 in Carthage, IL, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret Ermalee Young Kempkes. She graduated from Carthage Community High School with the class of 1971 and attended Southeastern Community College in Keokuk. She was first married to Gary Thornton and they later divorced. In 1993, Loretta was united in marriage to Terry Hoffman in Carthage, IL. He preceded her in death on November 9, 2013. She enjoyed crocheting blankets for her family and sewing. She also enjoyed playing POGO. Loretta loved her family very much and treasured the times she spent with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Monica Meierotto and her husband Greg and Vicky Kempkes all of Keokuk, eight grandchildren, Mercedes Curfman, Jacob and Joshua Icenogle, Cody Bennett, Zachary and Katelyn Vizcaya and Kaleb and Konnor Meierotto, her father, Thomas Kempkes of Hamilton, IL, two sisters, Linda Baird of Carthage, IL, Joyce Cooper and her husband Bill of Plymouth, IL, one brother, Ricky Kempkes of Carthage, IL, nieces and nephews and her special pets, JayJay her cat and ChiChi her dog. She was also preceded in death by her mother. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 3rd, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Bob Payne officiating. There was no visitation. Memorials may be made to the family.
