Lonnie J. McCarty, 58 of Keokuk died Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.
He was born November 2, 1964, the son of Charles R. and Bernice E. Jones McCarty in Keokuk, IA.
Lonnie had been employed by the Local 1260 Carpenter's Union for the last nine years. Prior to that, he was the owner and operator of Mississippi Valley Siding, Windows and Roofing in Keokuk.
He was a member of the Local Carpenter's Union 1260.
Lonnie enjoyed spending time outside working, hunting arrowheads and mushrooms and riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed boating, flying planes and driving race cars. Most of all, Lonnie treasured the time he spent with his family. He loved them deeply and was proud of all of them. He was generous with his time and talents and was an avid supporter of the Keokuk Kids Wrestling Club for many years. He was a friend to many and will be missed.
He is survived by his children, Timothy Joseph McCarty of Keokuk, Whitney McCarty of Keokuk, Tyler McCarty of Ionia, MI, Danielle Hambleton (Joe) of Keokuk, Samantha McCarty of Keokuk, Dillan J. McCarty of Keokuk, Sean McCarty of Keokuk and Chloe McCarty of Keokuk and fourteen grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Debbie Jinkens (Rick) of Wayland, MO and two brothers, Robert McCarty (Renee) of Keokuk and Larry McCarty (Eveline) of Camas, WA and lifelong friend, Carol Calhoun.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Lonnie McCarty, Jr. and Tony McCarty, one grandson, Ethan Morgan and one brother, Richard Dick McCarty.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on March 3, 2023 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Derek Olsen officiating. Burial was held in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation was held after 1 p.m. on March 2, 2023, at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m.
