Lois Jean Dieterich Hunziker, 100, of Kahoka passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka surrounded by her family.
She was born March 11, 1924 in Villisca, Iowa the daughter of Francis Howard and Verlin Ellen Neal Decker. They moved to Missouri in 1935.
Lois graduated from Wyaconda High School with the class of 1941. After graduation she worked for IH in Gorin, Missouri.
On September 8, 1941, she married Russell Eugene Dieterich, in Kahoka. To this union seven children were born, Donna, Patty, Carol, Judi, Mary, Mildred and Gerald. Together, they shared many years together until Russell's passing on September 2, 1972.
Lois was blessed to find companionship with Glenn Hunziker Jr., whom she married on March 2, 1974, in Kahoka. Glenn preceded her in death on February 26, 1993.
She was a faithful member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka.
She was a member of various clubs, including a camping group, American Legion, and the Red Hat Grammies, where she formed lasting bonds of friendship. Lois also dedicated her time to the Kahoka Senior Center as a volunteer for many years.
Lois enjoyed bowling, gardening and especially entertaining her friends and family. She also loved to cook, usually a big pot of chicken and noodles and homemade bread especially when she knew family was visiting. Birthday parties would always have her famous angel food cake.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Drummond of Keokuk, Patricia McAfee of Lewistown, Carolyn Heberer of Burlington, Mary Lou Pamperl of Kahoka, and, her son, Gerald (Bonnie) Dieterich of Kahoka, her step children, Dean (Dorothy) Hunziker, Lenore (Kay) Cameron, Shirley Wilson and Rick (Leisa) Hunziker, seventeen grandchildren and numeorus great grandchildren, great great and great great great grandchildren and her brother Robert Decker of Macon, GA along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Frances Henry and Berniece Murphy, her daughters, Mildred Ferguson and Judith Morgan, her brothers Fred Decker and William Decker, granddaughters, Marlana Heberer and Monisa Clark, and a stepdaughter Becky Crane, three sons in law, Clifford Pamperl, Dennis Morgan and Donnie Ferguson and two step-sons in law, Gary Cameron and Danny Wilson.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dan Steinbeck officiating. Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 10 – 11 a.m. with the family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to the Kahoka Cemetery or to the Clark County Nursing Home Activity Fund.
