Obituary

Linda Louise Custer, 74, of Ft. Madison, IA, died Friday, May 6, 2016 at her home. She was born on June 23, 1941 in Ft. Madison, IA, the daughter of Paul Eugene and Mildred Privia Slater. On October 3, 1959, Linda was united in marriage to Delbert C. Custer in Montrose, IA. He survives. She is also survived by three daughters, Brenda Lynn Eston of Ft. Madison, Debra Dawn Calfee and husband Ricky of Montrose and Carla Diane Gerek and husband Mark of Vacaville, CA, five grandchildren, Jeffry, Jeremy and Jennifer Schrader, Jason & Tara Calfee, six great-grandchildren, Adian and Elli Turner, Hailey Stowers, Kayden & Kolt Calfee and Emma Seitz, one brother, James Slater and wife Melody of Montrose, one sister, Carol Tull and Husband Kenny of Donnellson and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Slater and Mildred Ross, her step-father, John Ross, her step-mother, Ethel Slater, one sister, Rita Hart and her husband, Fred Hart, and one son-in-law, Marion Eston. Linda graduated from the Montrose High School with the Class of 1958. She had been employed at the U.S. Air Force Commissary at Travis Air Force Base in Florida until her retirement. Linda was a member of the Montrose United Methodist Church and the NCO Wives Club in Florida. Linda was gifted in arts and crafts and made jewelry, book covers, wire beaded angels and also painted beautiful landscape and floral pictures. She will always be remembered by her family for the hand crocheted scarves and hats that she made for everyone. She was a wonderful cook and her family looked forward to her home cooked meals. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Reverend Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
