Obituary

Lillie Bernice Sundeen O'Bleness, 91, of Keokuk, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005, in Oshkosh, WI, with her family at her side. She was born at home on the family farm on January 21, 1914, in New Boston, IA, the daughter of William and Clara Schafer Sundeen. She married Norman O'Bleness on September 22, 1939, in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on July 16, 1998. Survivors include: two daughters, Joann (Jim) O'Hagan of Castle Rock, CO and Dana (Donald) Stolley of Oshkosh, WI; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Henning, of Littleton, CO, Thomas O'Hagan of Munich, Germany, Sara (Will) Goodwin of Lone Tree, CO, Dylan (Dani) Stolley of Oshkosh, WI, Caitlin Stolley of New York City, NY, and Kendall Stolley of Evanston, IL; three great grandchildren, Brayden & Reese Henning and Drue Goodwin; and her sister-in-law, Mabel Sundeen of Ft. Madison, IA. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Florence Wyrick, Anna Marsh, Hilma Allen, Stella Pezley, and one brother, Oscar Sundeen. Lillie was the supreme caregiver, devoted to her family & friends. Her first job as a teenager was at the Lee County Home taking care of the elderly and disabled. After she married, her mother, Clara Sundeen, moved into Lillie's home and was cared for until her death fifteen years later. For the next eight years, she faithfully cared for Aunt Lizzie Haeffner in her final years. Lillie's joy in life was caring for her 6 grandchildren. Family was the center of her existence. Many people knew Lillie through her places of employment: Peters Dairy Store, selling Avon, and as the receptionist at Dr. Kemp's Medical Office where she cared for many families. She loved to dance, could play the piano by ear, grow anything with her 'green thumb', and bake the most wonderful pies for her family and friends. Lillie was a monument of loyalty and devotion to family and friends. A funeral service to celebrate her life was held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 25, at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Burial was in Keokuk National Cemetery reuniting her with her beloved husband, Norman. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Lillie's family would like to thank the staff of Northpoint (Oshkosh) Medical and Rehabilitation for the loving care she was given in her final days.
