Lewis William Hunter, 60 of Nauvoo, IL died Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.
He was born October 5, 1956 in Evergreen Park, IL the son of Robert and Lois Jane Lewis Hunter. On November 20, 1974 he was united in marriage to Pamela Joyce Lewis in Lemont, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include, four daughters, Mercianne Finch of Keokuk, Lauriebeth Hunter (Bob Page) of Keokuk, Jenna-lyn Shuman (Micheal) of Keokuk, and Beckajoyce Hunter of Iowa City, IA, one son, Brent Lewis Hunter of Kansas City, MO, his mother, Lois Jane Hunter Schnakenberg of Sedalia, MO, seven grandchildren, McKenna Jade Hunter, Hunter Michael Finch, Meechele Kayle Page, Mason Robert Lewis Page, Hailey Anne Finch, Brady Micheal Shuman and Alexis Beula- Rose Shuman, one brother, Kevin Robert Hunter (Wendy) of Texas, one sister, Shirley Jane Jensen (Richard) of Ozawkie, KS, two nieces, Jessica Whitston (Brian) and Christina Hunter, and one nephew, Noah Hunter (Katie).
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert William Hunter, one brother, George Oliver and his step-father, Roy Schnakenberg.
Lewis graduated from Lemont Township High School in Lemont, IL.
He had been employed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a conductor for forty-three years, until his retirement in November of 2016.
Lewis was a member of the Masonic Lodge and The Brotherhood of Railway Conductors Labor Union.
Lewis loved to travel, collect model trains and baseball cards, attend plays and go fishing. He also loved to listen to piano music. He enjoyed his home in Nauvoo and often spent his Sundays at home reading a book or his Bible. Lewis loved life and was always up for a new adventure. He had his favorite quotes that he said frequently to his family, "What kind of answer is that?" and "You were the twinkle in my eye before you were even born" and "What the Sam Hell is this?" Lewis was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan and Chicago Bears football fan. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement in Texas and South Padre Island, although he did miss the beautiful sunsets from his home in Nauvoo.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Jay Zetterlund officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation will be held after 1:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30p.m.
