Lewis N. Higbee, 93, of Kahoka, MO, formerly of Argyle, IA, died October 3, 2006, at Keokuk, IA of congestive heart failure. Lewis was born July 18, 1913, to Thomas and "Winnie" Tall Higbee in Clark County, MO. Originally from St. Patrick, he farmed for over 50 years south of Argyle. In addition to supporting his family and their many activities, he particularly enjoyed serving his community. Mr. Higbee was a member of the First Baptist Church in Keokuk and in later years also attended the Methodist Church in Wayland, MO, near his home with his second wife, Lucile. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 29 , a past Des Moines Township Trustee, and served on three separate school boards (Sargent, Argyle and Central) from 1947 to 1965, was a member of the National Farmers Organization and served many years in the Election Board. Mr. Higbee was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 50 years, Thelma Lenore Shafer Higbee and his second wife of 19 years, Lucile Brammer Maddox Higbee. He is survived by his daughter, Jean Higbee Koch and son-in-law, Harvey Koch of Pleasant Hill, IA, and their daughter, Melissa Koch and husband, Matt Sakaguchi of San Francisco, CA, his son, Lewis W. Higbee and daughter-in-law, Joyce Higbee of rural Argyle, IA, and their daughter, Dana Klemme of West Des Moines, IA, and son, Brian Klemme of St. Simons Island, GA. Mr. Higbee is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Glenn and Helen Shafer of Kahoka, MO, and many nieces and nephews. Celebration of his life was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2006, at First Baptist Church, 204 E. Des Moines St., Wayland, MO. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
