Obituary

Lewis H. Edlen, 84, of Kahoka, MO, died Friday, April 3, 2009 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka. He was born on June 24, 1924 in Clark County, MO, the son of Harve and Effie Horton Edlen. On June 27, 1946, Lewis was united in marriage to Virginia Parrish in Kahoka, MO. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Carol McCarty and her husband Steve of Keystone Heights, FL, Steven Edlen of Kahoka and Sherry Harrison of Keokuk, IA, five grandchildren, Melton McCarty of Oviedo, FL, Stephanie Anastassiadis, of Middleburg, FL, Wayne Edlen and Jennifer Edlen both of Kahoka and Loren Harrison of Keokuk, IA, five great-grandchildren, George Anastassiadis, James Anastassiadis, Stephen Anastassiadis and Mary Anastassiadis all of Middleburg, FL and Ian McCarty of Oviedo, FL, three sisters, Betty "Wink" McGuiness of Kahoka, Wilma "Shorty" Pratt of Fairfield, IA and Ilda "Chubs" Frazier of St. Louis, MO, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eva Edlen. Lewis graduated from Revere High School in Revere, MO. He had been employed as a mechanic at Wiss and Wiss, Daniel Chevrolet, Edlen Sales and Service and Kahoka Motors in Kahoka. He also worked at the Iowa Ammunition Plant. After his retirement he worked as a toll collector on the St. Francisville, MO toll bridge for seventeen years. He was a charter member of the Moose Lodge. Lewis loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could hunting and fishing. He took several hunting trips to Colorado and Wyoming and loved going to southern Missouri to camp and fish. He loved fixing things and working on lawn mowers. Lewis also enjoyed watching Nascar racing and driving his red truck. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Polio Association.
