Obituary

Leotis I. "Junior" Davis, Jr., 85, or rural Keokuk, IA, died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. He was born August 29, 1921 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Leotis I. Davis, Sr. and Flossie Smith Davis. On September 3, 1955, Leotis was united in marriage to Evelyn Jean Vinson in Hannibal, MO. She preceded him in death on October 19, 2001. Leotis was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during WW II in the Pacific. He received his Honorable Discharge with the rank of Machine Gun Sergeant NCO. He had been employed at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison, IA for over 20 years, retiring in 1986. While working at the Penitentiary, Leoits also delivered the Daily Gate City newspaper. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, the Masons Lodge #29 and the VFW Post 3508 all in Keokuk, IA. Leotis loved to go fishing, camping and boating. He also liked to cook. He had spent several winters in Texas and always enjoyed his time there. He is survived by three sons, Vinson Davis and his wife Bonita of Keokuk, IA, Dan Davis and his wife Sandy of Manito, IL and Milton Krumm and his wife Gaby of Burleson, TX, three daughters, Nancy Ferguson and her husband Irvin and Janet Hazelrig and her husband John all of Pekin, IL, and Barbara Conover and her husband Don of Burlington, IA, two sisters, Lois Mlyniec of Texas and Lucille Starr of Keokuk, IA, three brothers, Lloyd Davis of San Antonio, TX, Lester "Curly" Davis of Palmyra, MO, and Leslie Davis of Davenport, IA, fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Irene Carroll, one brother, Leonard Davis, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside services with military rites were held at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Reverend Bill Willis officiating. Memorials may be made to the River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA.
