Obituary

Leonard Wayne Johnson, 87 of Wayland, MO, formerly of Hamilton, IL died Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, IL. He was born August 28, 1932 in Ashton, MO the son of Lester and Magdalene Wright Johnson. On June 23, 1957 he was united in marriage to Norma Wooldridge in Kahoka, MO. She preceded him in death on January 17, 1998. He was then united in marriage to Ruth Carr in Hamilton, IL on November 23, 2002. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Della Suzanne Sutton of Canton, two grandchildren, Stephanie Eaton and Sidney Sutton, two step-sons, Mike Carr (Cathy) of Jefferson City, MO and Kevin Carr (Kimberly) of Warsaw, two great-grandchildren, Morgan Eaton and Lilly Eaton, four step-grandchildren, Stephanie Swisegood, Logan Carr, Lauren Carr and Casey Carr, seven step-great-grandchildren, adopted daughter, Doris Grant of Hamilton, half-brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. Besides his first wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Gary Sutton. Leonard was a member of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Leonard graduated from the Kahoka High School with the Class of 1950. Leonard had been employed by Stone Container for fifty years until his retirement. He then worked for Dadants in Hamilton, IL. He was a member of the American Legion in Canton, MO. Leonard loved to travel and enjoyed many years of traveling, visiting people and places and making wonderful memories. He always said that scripture is the word of God and one of his favorite memories is being saved, being born again, and his trip to Israel. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on November 30 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Burial with military rites was held in the Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, MO. Visitation was held prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home and the family met with friends at that time. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Full Gospel Church.
