View Video Tribute Leona Juanita Johnson Hemingway passed away December 12, 2008, at River Hills Village. She was born on July 27, 1921, at Galland Iowa, the daughter of John Christian and Florence Bringer Johnson. On April 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to Leo Hemingway, in Ft. Madison, IA. Mrs. Hemingway was a homemaker her entire life. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren. Her great-grandchildren have been a true blessing to her. She had attended the Assembly of God church most of her life where she worked in the church nursery for several years. Early in life, she accepted Jesus as her Savior and recently followed the ordinance of water baptism at the New Testament Christian Church. She is survived by two daughters Sharon Bullard and Sandra Pollitt and her husband John all of Keokuk, five grandchildren, Todd Bullard and his wife Kathleen, Lisa Morris and her husband Chris, and Chris Pollitt all of Keokuk, Steve Pollitt of Hudson, IA, and Shawn Hemingway of Ames, IA, four great-grandchildren Ashton Bullard, Christian Morris, Elizabeth Morris, and Joshua Pollitt, one sister-in-law, Della Johnson of Keokuk, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter at birth, Beverly Ann, a son, Robert Leo Hemingway, a son-in-law, Donald Bullard, two brothers, Bobby Johnson and Clarence "Spud" Johnson, her twin sister, Wynona Johnson and her sister, Maxine Johnson. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser and Pastor David Drew officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice, Keokuk Assembly of God, or the New Testament Christian Church.
