Leo Spann, 70, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born August 19, 1942 in Lynchberg, TN the son of Ott and Essie Chapel Spann. On July 26, 1980 he was united in marriage to Christine Elting at the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Bruce Spann and his wife Heather of Birmingham, AL, and Danny Spann and his wife Kristy of Birmingham, AL, one daughter Christie Woodworth and her husband Adam of Hamilton, IL, six granddaughters, Kayla Spann, Kelsi Spann, Mackenzie Wiggin, Brooklyn Spann, Lillie Woodworth, and Lucy Woodworth, two grandsons, Hayden and Taylor Eagle, one sister, Mary Alice Moody of Birmingham, AL along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jack Spann, three sisters, Dorothy Roberts, Ann Mitchell and Bobbie Jo Griner. Leo graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, AL with the Class of 1960 and was a member of the Top Hatters Fraternity. He worked at Griffin Wheel for 34 years retiring in 1997. Leo enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and was an avid Alabama Fan. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Celebration of Life services were held Friday, October 19, 2012 at 7 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with David Turner officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Keokuk Area Hospital for the serenity room fund or the Alzheimer's Association.
