Obituary

Lawrence "Lonnie" Wagner, 59 of Quincy passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

He was born April 6, 1965 in Anchorage, AK the son of Richard Lavern and Lois Elaine Anderson Wagner. Lonnie graduated from Keokuk High School with the class of 1983 and went on to join the National Guard. He also attended Southeastern Community College, where he studied carpentry.

Lonnie dedicated his life to serving his country through a long and honorable career in the National Guard. His service included being called to active duty, where he completed two tours in Iraq. After many years of commitment and sacrifice, Lonnie retired from his military career, proudly holding the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Lonnie was employed with Manchester Tank in Quincy for fifteen years.

He took great pride in cultivating vegetables in his garden. Fishing provided him with a quiet escape, where he could relax by the water, and enjoy the surroundings. Mushroom hunting was another of his favorite pastimes, he loved the adventure of discovering hidden treasures in the woods.

Above all, Lonnie was a devoted family man, always putting the needs of his loved ones first. His loyalty and love were the foundation of his relationships, and he took great pride in supporting and caring for his family.

He is survived by his mother, Lois Leffler of Keokuk, four daughters, Cassandra Wagner (Demetrius Dixon) of Quincy, Adriana Wagner Donlan (David) of Carmen, IL, Kamya Morris (Samuel) of Quincy, and August Kayser (Tim) of Quincy, his grandchildren, Chante Mears, Hailea Fuhrman, Leah Fuhrman, Isiah Bence, Kaliyah Dixon, Demetrius Dixon, Jr., Isiah Mears, Logan Mitchell, Kaitlyn Schmidt, Davinity Schmidt, Dixie Schmidt, and Juniper Kayser and a great grandson, Vato Walker. He is also survived by two sisters, Loreen Wagner (Lorri) of Hamilton, and Kelli Davis (Gale Case) of Keokuk, an uncle, Danny Murphy, two nephews, David Lawler, Jr and Michael Wagner, two nieces, Michela Marmion and Cameo Eiben (John), along with several great nieces and nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by father, his step-father, Danny Leffler, half-brother Richard "Butch" Wagner, Jr, two half-sisters, Kerri Wagner and Shelly Wagner and several aunts, uncles including Terrance "Bud" Murphy and other family members.

A graveside service with military rites was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at the Sunset Cemetery in Quincy.

Visitation was held from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends at that time.
